It has been fruitful summer for ministry with adults with intellectual disabilities in Central Indiana. Camp SonRise was cancelled, but it resulted in numerous congregations and hundreds of volunteers stepping up to host events. The summer was filled with fellowship and the love of Jesus!
This past Monday evening about 75 friends with disabilities, families and volunteers enjoyed an Indians baseball game hosted by Bob Skinner and St. Andrews Lutheran Church. Earlier in the month, St. Andrew’s also hosted a Friday evening dance.
In July, Christ the Savior Lutheran Church brought friends with disabilities and members of their church, including youth, together for a game night that included bocce ball, corn toss and volleyball.
In partnership with Connection Ministries, Grace Presbyterian Church, Trinity, Messiah and St. Andrews Lutheran Churches put on three Summer Friendship Gatherings for their respective Friendship ministries. Each gathering was held over three consecutive evenings and was filled with study of the Word, worship, fellowship, and really good food.
Connection Ministries continued to be a resource to churches ministering to people with intellectual disabilities. We provided workshops at Grace Presbyterian, First Lutheran (Columbus) and the last one is this Saturday at St. Andrews Lutheran Church. The workshops are bringing these ministries together to exchange ideas on ways to raise awareness in their churches, recruit volunteers and friends with disabilities and improve the effectiveness of their lessons.
We give all praise to God for the fruit from this summer!
