SUMMER FRIENDSHIP GATHERINGS – A HUGE BLESSING
Last week we finished our third Summer Friendship Gathering for the 2016 summer, and many agreed, they went too fast! The gatherings were for the Friendship Ministries at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grace Presbyterian, and a combined gathering for the ministries at St. Andrews and Messiah Lutheran Churches! At the three events, there were 69 friends with disabilities, more than 20 family members and caregivers, all enjoying the fellowship of 60 volunteer companions. Additional volunteers served great meals, helped with music and crafts each evening.
Over three evenings, we learned about God’s love and sovereignty in the life of Joseph, participated in small group discussions, prayed and worshiped together. The primary lesson we learned is that God is always with us. God will work all things, even the hard times, for our good!
Unlike camps, everyone involved in these church ministries were invited to the gathering. Their level of disability or lack of funds did not prevent anyone from attending. Families and caregivers eagerly joined in as well!
We are grateful to everyone that gave financial gifts that made all of this possible. With God’s help, we will plan for six Summer Friendship Gatherings next summer!
