“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10a

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

~Psalm 46:10a

In times of uncertainty, it can be tempting to give in to fear. We fear the unknown, and there is so much of it we are presently facing. Yet in the midst of the unknown, one thing IS known: God is with us.

There are many examples of people in the Bible who were afraid of the circumstances surrounding them. Moses was afraid to be the spokesman for God, and lead the Israelites out of Egypt. David was afraid of Saul’s murderous rage. The disciples were afraid of the Jewish leaders, and hid behind locked doors after Jesus’ death. But God countered every fear with the assurance that HE IS GOD.

When Moses begged God to send someone else to lead the people out of Egypt, God answered, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite?…You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do.” (Exodus 4:13-15).

David sang praises to God in Psalm 18, for protecting him from the wrath of Saul; “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:2).

When the disciples huddled together behind locked doors, the resurrected Jesus came to stand among them and said, “Peace be with you!” (John 20:19).

Like those we read about in the Bible, we too are facing trying circumstances. And like Moses, David, and the disciples, God counters our fears with the upmost assurance that HE IS GOD.

We all miss our friends in the Friendship groups right now, and trust that God will sustain us all while we are apart. Let’s continue reaching out to one another and being the Church. There is a lot of unknown right now in the world, but do not be afraid. God is with us.

Prayer: God, in the midst of my fears and anxieties, help me to remember that YOU ARE GOD. You are with me, and will never leave me. Give me the strength to endure, compassion for others, and above all faith and trust in you. Fill me with your Holy Spirit, to guide me in my everyday thoughts, words and actions. Protect all in my Friendship group during this time, and bring us back together again soon. I love you, Lord. Amen.
