“ ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ ” Jeremiah 29:11
If you know Jackie Schaefer, you also know God is working through her life. Her friend Lorena is very close to Jackie. They have been friends for about 15 years and get together almost every month for a meal and fellowship. They also talk frequently on the phone.
Lorena is blind and has an intellectual disability, but Jackie has often shared how much she has learned from Lorena. Lorena has taught her about trusting God, and the power of prayer. Jackie is grateful that God brought Lorena into her life.
For many years Jackie has been a vital part of our ministry, first with LDM, then SonRise, and now Connection Ministries. She is a dear friend to many, but now God is now leading her into a new chapter.
Jackie became part of this ministry as a 14-year-old from Wichita, Kansas during one of our camps. That was 24 years ago. At the end of this summer, Jackie will return to Kansas to be close to family and explore the hope and future God has planned for her.
During college, Jackie proved her giftedness and value by helping us pioneer a summer intern program. After graduation, she moved to Indiana and joined our team. She has been part of our ministry staff for 15 years.
We are heartbroken that she is leaving, but we also have great expectations. God has plans for Jackie, even if we don’t understand them. God always knows best!
We need you to come alongside us in this ministry that means so much to so many people.
First, we yearn for your prayers. This next year will bring a considerable transition for both Jackie and Connection Ministries. The only thing that matters is that we allow God to control our every step. Pray that we remain in the center of His will.
It is our hope that you will be an encouragement. Send Jackie a note or a card. Let her know how she influenced your life. You might even visit with her. She will be with us through the summer, attending most of the Summer Friendship Gatherings.
We need your patience during this transition. This will be a new chapter for Connection Ministries, as well. We remain committed to supporting the Friendship Groups and Summer Gatherings.
You may know the person God has prepared to join our team. We wait on the Lord and His people to identify the person God is calling. Throughout this process, we also need to consider the long-term needs of the ministry. We pray for someone who will one day lead this ministry.
We ask for your financial support. This summer Connection Ministries will serve more than 300 friends with disabilities at nine Gathering events. Operating costs will be at their highest when donations are historically at their lowest.
As we search for the person God will bring to our team, we also have the additional expense for online postings, interviews, travel, and more. Ongoing employment costs may also increase. For many years, God walked this ministry through challenging times; and each time He worked through His people and the ministry bore fruit.
We are confident that God is working in this challenge, as well.
Thank you for being part of what God is doing through Connection Ministries.
