Everyone likes good news!
We get excited when we hear about the birth of a baby, or a friend getting married.
Can you imagine the shepherd’s excitement as described in the Gospel of Luke when the angel said; “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke said they hurried off to see the Savior.
Good News can’t get any better, and many of our friends with intellectual disabilities, their families, caregivers and volunteers know it!
Every week Andy gives thanks to God that he is with his Friendship group at St. Andrews, and he prays that God allows him to go back next week.
David and Ken are what we call “double dippers”. They not only attend the Friendship group at St. Andrews with Andy, but they are also part of a second group at Messiah Lutheran.
Angie calls Linda every Monday evening, and again on Tuesday just to be sure Linda will give her a ride to her Tuesday Friendship group at Trinity.
Julie loves being a volunteer companion with the Friendship Group at Spirit of Joy. She especially enjoys watching Jacob, another companion, interact with his friends who have disabilities. He is so passionate and enthusiastic! It’s rare to see a young man just out of college interact with people with disabilities so naturally, and with such energy!
Another adult friend, Teresa, loves to write! Her journals are filled with countless pages of Biblical truths that God burned into her heart, and she loves sharing her writing with others.
God is doing incredible things! Through Connection Ministries, He is empowering disciples; our friends with disabilities are hearing and sharing the Good News, volunteer companions are being encouraged and using their gifts in powerful ways, and God is using our donors to provide the financial support we need to advance God’s Kingdom.
Yet, there is much more to do! In this Gospel passage, Luke goes on to say, “When they had seen Him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.”
Our friends with disabilities are also busy spreading the Word. They’ve been telling their friends about the Friendship groups, and now many of these groups are busting at the seams. There is an immediate need to plant new groups on the north and west sides of Indianapolis! Please pray with us as we search for the right church locations.
Connection Ministries remains laser focused on planting new Friendship groups, along with supporting the existing groups with consulting, training, and resources. We will also plant more Summer Friendship Gatherings so that every adult friend who is part of a Friendship group has access to a Gathering.
Your help is needed! As we can continue to build up all the existing ministries, we also want to expand our capacity. More Friendship groups are needed to reach more friends with disabilities, families, caregivers, and empower more volunteers.
This Christmas, we ask you to consider how you can help Connection Ministries advance God’s Kingdom in 2019. You can pray with us, help with a Friendship group, and provide financial support. Click on the “Donate” button to make a gift today!
To increase capacity, the Connection Ministries team needs…
* A part-time administrative assistant, to complement our volunteer administrator.
* An additional consultant, to multiply our ability to plant and support more Friendship ministries.
* Office space for the ministry.
Every gift is important this Christmas Season, but even more important throughout the year. Prayerfully consider making your gifts recurring. With your support and prayers, Connection Ministries can grow and thrive in bringing those with disabilities into the Church!
Christmas blessings to you and your family,
Don, Linda and Jackie
The Connection Ministries Team
